Electrolytes and demineralized water

Electrolytes are melts or solutions that can conduct electric current; acid electrolytes and potassium-lithium alkaline electrolytes are used for batteries. There are high-molecular-weight, low-molecular-weight, and colloidal electrolytes. High-molecular-weight electrolytes include nucleic acids, proteins, and biopolymers. Colloidal electrolytes include tannins, soaps, and some types of dyes.

Water desalination is the process by which the content of dissolved salts in water is reduced. This process is also called demineralization or deionization. Many processes in chemistry, thermal power engineering, and electronics require water with a minimal salt content, up to their complete absence.

Several methods are used for water desalination: thermal, ion exchange, reverse osmosis, membrane, electrodialysis, and combinations of these methods.
