Wood's Alloy Composition: Bismuth (39.3-40.2)% Cadmium (8.85-9.75)% Tin (8.85-9.75)% Lead (40.3-41.2)% Wood's alloy is a low-melting-point heavy alloy first produced in 1960 by scientist B. Wood. This substance has a density of 9720 kg/m³ and a melting temperature range of 68.5 to 75°C. The following metals are used to manufacture Wood's alloy, which can be purchased from our company at the lowest cost: 25% lead; 12.5% tin; 12.5% cadmium; 50% bismuth. The tensile strength of Wood's alloy is 4.5 kgf/m per square meter, relative elongation is 7%, and Brinell hardness is 10.5 kgf/m per square meter. Wood's alloy is produced in the form of silver-white rods or granules. This chemical reagent is used in a wide variety of industries: In industry – for bending thin-walled pipes; In electroforming, the material serves as fusible cores, allowing cavities to be created in metal products; In radio electronics, Wood's alloy is used for tinning printed circuit boards; It is used for manufacturing safety plugs and inserts for various safety devices; Wood's alloy is also used as a low-melting-point solder in the process of melting copper and non-metallic substances with tin-bismuth, tin-lead, silver, or other electrolytic coatings; Wood's alloy is used as a soft solder for soldering various alloys of metals such as nickel, copper, aluminum, bronze, brass, and various jewelry items. The listed applications do not limit the scope of use for Wood's alloy. The alloy is also used in precision casting, serves as a low-temperature bath in chemical laboratory research, is used for producing metallographic specimens, and in many other areas of human activity. When using this substance, it must be taken into account that the cadmium included in Rose's alloy makes it toxic.
